2024 AFL Lunch
A huge thank you to all who attended, and all who entertained us at, our 25th annual AFL Lunch on Thursday. The feedback to date suggests nobody went home disappointed!
Those who heard Eliza Gollant speak about her visit to the Ruben Centre last November were left in no doubt regarding the impact of the programs we are funding, particularly for mothers and children in the Mukuru Slum. And those who watched this slideshow depicting the terrible effect of the recent floods on Mukuru’s residents now understand the huge challenge Ruben needs to help them overcome:
As for Thursday, our marvellous MC, Shane Healy, led us through a highly entertaining and engaging event starting with a fascinating chat with Peter Moore and Matthew Lloyd. During his tenure as the GM at 3AW, Shane employed both Matthew and his next interviewee, Michael Warner. He must have been impressed by Michael’s passion in demanding more transparency from AFL HQ around integrity issues including their drugs policy. Finally, it was very interesting to hear Jess Good’s perspective on the strong progress of AFLW given her prior experience in elite basketball.
Finally, thanks to Milo Rasinac, who did a wonderful job generating extraordinary bidding for the auction items, and to the very generous donors and bidders.
All donations of $500 or more qualify for ‘membership’ status and, if made before 5pm next Friday 24 May will be included in our "members-only" draw for a bottle of 1972 Penfolds Grange (generously donated by Dagmar O'Brien)
Thanks to John Toscano for the photos from the day
